The CR7 LIFE Museum is scheduled to open in July this year at K11 in Tsim Sha Tsui and will feature an array of exhibits dedicated to the football icon’s illustrious career. VIP tickets went on sale last week and were snapped up in less than 20 minutes — a testament to Ronaldo’s popularity. An additional batch of VIP tickets will cost HK$1,500-HK$2,500 and will give holders an enhanced experience that includes exclusive CR7 merch, guided tours, free photo-booth takings, skip-the-line access, and an exclusive look into the UR CR7’s YouTube studio. There’s even an ultimate VIP ticket up for grabs priced at HK$4,000 that will give early access to the museum two days before its grand opening on July 7.

Other CR7 perks

Ticket holders will also participate in the ‘Your Message to CR7’ campaign, where they can leave a personalised message for Ronaldo. Ten of the most creative messages will win a signed football jersey, complete with a certificate of authenticity. The sprawling museum will be spread across 12,000 square feet, and will house 3D displays showcasing Ronaldo’s accomplishments, engaging football activities, and a photo spot. Those who spring for an “ultimate VIP experience” can enter the museum two days prior to the official opening.

Other Cristiano Ronaldo museums

Ronaldo has a permanent CR7 Museum in his hometown of Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Visitors can view the famed forward’s most iconic awards, notably his four Golden Boots and five Ballons d’Or, as well as every club trophy he’s won. A CR7 Signature Museum also opened in late 2023 in Riyadh, where Ronaldo has been spending time playing for Saudi Arabian football club Al Nassr.

The football legend was last in the region in January last year for two Al Nassr exhibition matches in Shenzhen. However, fans were left disappointed when he didn’t come to the pitch due to a muscle injury. This was followed by Argentina star Lionel Messi’s no-show during an Inter Miami-Hong Kong friendly match because of a leg injury, though he did play at a game in Japan a few days later.

Hong Kong Adds To Paralympics Medal Haul With 4 Wins on Monday https://thehkhub.com/hong-kong-adds-to-paralympics-medal-haul-with-4-wins-on-monday/ Tue, 03 Sep 2024 01:00:00 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=64128 Hong Kong had a great showing at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games on Monday when athletes from the city won four medals. Three of the medals were for boccia, one was for badminton, and all were for individual events. Hong Kong is now placed at No. 24 on the medals table thanks to these wins.

The first win of the day was also the city’s first gold at this year’s Games, and came when boccia athlete John Loung finished first in the Men’s Individual BC1 event, after beating South Korea’s Jung Sung-joon. This was 38-year-old Loung’s fourth showing at the Games and his first medal. This was followed by boccia player Annie Cheung winning silver in the Women’s Individual BC4 event. The 25-year-old, who made her Paralympics debut this year, was defeated by China’s Lin Ximei.

Badminton athlete Chan Ho-yuen rounded off the day by winning the silver medal in the Men’s Singles WH2 event, losing to Japanese player Daiki Kajiwara.

Hong Kong now has a total of six medals at this year’s Paralympics — two gold, three silver, and one bronze. Last week, swimmer Chan Yui-lam won the city’s first medal this year after bagging silver in the women’s S14 100-metre butterfly event. On Sunday, Ng Cheuk-yan made history when she became Hong Kong’s youngest Paralympic medalist after winning bronze in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB6 event.

The 14-year-old finished the race in 1:34.15 minutes, surpassed by Great Britain’s Maisie Summers-Newton, who claimed gold, and silver medalist China’s Liu Daomin.

Earlier in the day, Ng made her Paralympics debut when she competed in the women’s SM6 200m medley, clocking 3:12.95 to beat her personal best time, and made it to the group final. However, despite beating her personal best again when she finished the race in 3:11.95, she placed sixth in the event.

Hong Kong now has two medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, and is placed 51 on the medals table. Ng made waves last year when she claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s 100m Backstroke S6 event at the 4th Asian Para Games Hangzhou and a silver medal in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB6 event at the Para Swimming World Championships.

For the first time, the Hong Kong Cyclothon will include a carnival at West Kowloon Cultural District Wonderland with photo spots, a cycling-themed market, yoga, stretching and dancefit workshops, and refreshments. The cycling events at Tsim Sha Tsui will also be broadcast live to visitors at the carnival.

Cross Harbour Race Back in November, With Asian Open Water Swimming Championships https://thehkhub.com/cross-harbour-race-back-in-november-with-asian-open-water-swimming-championships/ Tue, 06 Aug 2024 09:07:16 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=63720 The forthcoming edition of Hong Kong’s iconic cross-harbour race will take on November 10, 2024 and will see the return of the Asian Open Water Swimming Championships after a 12-year hiatus. This year’s New World Harbour Race will also see the introduction of a new companion arrangement, allowing leisure swimmers to swim alongside a family member or friend. Registrations for the event open at 11am on August 6 and will close at 11:59pm on August 26.

Like last year, a maximum of 4,000 swimmers can participate in either the Racing Group or Leisure Group. Swimmers will start from the Golden Bauhinia Square Public Pier in Wan Chai at 7:30am and make their way across Victoria Harbour before finishing at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui, swimming a total of 1km. Participants in the 11th Asian Open Water Swimming Championships will take a longer 5km course within the harbour before heading to the finish point at Tsim Sha Tsui.

All participants must meet eligibility requirements set by the organiser and pass the Time Trials held in September, except for those holding other recognised results. The trials will be held at the Tung Chung, Shing Mun Valley, and Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park swimming pools. Leisure participants will be selected after undergoing a time trial, followed by a lots-drawing process.

The race first started as the Hong Kong Cross-Harbour Swim in 1906, but was suspended from 1942-1946 during World War II and subsequently halted in 1979 because of the polluted waters in Victoria Harbour. It was revived in 2011 as the New World Harbour Race, and has been held almost every year since then except for 2019 and 2020, when it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Siobhán Haughey Wins Hong Kong’s 4th Paris Olympics Medal on Wednesday https://thehkhub.com/siobhan-haughey-becomes-the-only-hk-athlete-to-win-4-medals-at-the-olympics/ Thu, 01 Aug 2024 02:59:15 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=63572 Siobhán Haughey set another record for Hong Kong at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday night, when she took home the bronze medal in the women’s 100m freestyle. Haughey previously won a bronze on Saturday in the women’s 200m freestyle, making her the sole Olympics representative from the city to win two medals during this year’s Summer Games so far. In addition, she is the only Hong Kong athlete to win four medals at the Olympics, which includes the silver she bagged in the women’s 200m freestyle and the bronze she took home for the women’s 100m freestyle during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Haughey was the third fastest out of the blocks during Wednesday’s race, and second at the halfway point. However, she was eventually outpaced by world record holder Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden, who took gold in 52.16 seconds. Torri Huske of the US completed the race in 52.29 seconds, getting the silver medal in the process. Haughey’s 52.33 seconds earned her her second bronze of this year’s edition of the games. She will next swim the 4x100m medley relay, for which the heats begin on August 3.

Haughey’s bronze brought the city’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics up to four, putting Hong Kong at 11th place in the medal table. Last week, Cheung Ka Long took home the gold in men’s foil fencing, while Vivian Kong Man Wai bagged the SAR’s first women’s fencing gold in the women’s épée individual event. The top three spots in the medal table are occupied by Mainland China (9 golds, 7 silvers, and 3 bronzes), France (8 golds, 10 silvers, and 8 bronzes), and Japan (8 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes).

Hong Kong Made History With Two Medals At Paris 2024 Olympics In One Night https://thehkhub.com/hong-kong-made-history-with-two-medals-at-paris-2024-olympics-in-one-night/ Tue, 30 Jul 2024 03:15:49 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=63550 Hong Kong’s athletes achieved historic success at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning two medals in a single night on July 29, 2024. In men’s foil fencing, Cheung Ka Long successfully defended his title in a dramatic final against Italy’s Filippo Macchi. The match, which ended in a sudden-death situation after a tense 14-14 tie, saw Ka Long secure the gold with a decisive final point. This victory marks Ka Long as the third man in history to win back-to-back golds in this event, the last occurrence being in 1956.

In swimming, Siobhán Haughey clinched bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle, adding to Hong Kong’s medal count and highlighting her exceptional performance in the pool. Her achievement follows a medal-winning performance at the Tokyo Olympics, where she won silver in both the women’s 200m and 100m freestyle events.

Earlier last Saturday, Vivian Kong Man Wai secured Hong Kong’s first-ever women’s fencing gold in the women’s épée individual event. Kong’s win came after a close contest that saw her come from behind to score the final point in overtime. The three-time Olympian is also currently the women’s world No. 1.

These achievements underscore a historic milestone for Hong Kong, marking the first time the region has won two gold medals in a single Olympic Games. The city currently ranks 10th on the medal table with 2 gold and 1 bronze medal. The top three spots are occupied by Japan (6 golds, 2 silvers, and 4 bronzes), France (5 golds, 8 silvers, and 3 bronzes), and the People’s Republic of China (5 golds, 5 silvers, and 2 bronzes).
